CHICAGO – Anthony Davis was sidelined due to injury in his first two career NBA trips to his home city of Chicago, but he’s been in uniform each of the past two regular seasons. Davis’ chances of making it three straight seemed to improve Friday, when he practiced with his New Orleans teammates at local Northwestern University, a member of the Big Ten.
Davis, who sustained a left hip injury Monday when he was pushed into the baseline seats on a hard foul by New York’s Kyle O’Quinn, said there is a “high probability” that he will play tomorrow against the Bulls.
“I feel better. I was able to do some movements today,” Davis said. “Able to go through practice. Of course it wasn’t that much (in terms of strenuous activity), but I feel a lot better. So we’ll see how it feels (later today) when I’m kind of calming down (physically), and see how tomorrow goes.”
The Pelicans (16-24) will seek a third straight victory on their current five-game road trip, which concludes Monday at Indiana. The Bulls game is a 4 p.m. Central start, meaning the Pelicans will not hold a shootaround, but both teams will do a walkthrough in the United Center, at which time the determination may be made on Davis’ game status.
“After (the walkthrough),” the 23-year-old said of a potential decision. “But like I said, it feels great. It’s a high probability that I’m going to play tomorrow, but there’s still a little bit of that pain in there.”
