Anthony Davis pays tribute to injured DeMarcus Cousins during All-Star Game

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis wore No. 0 at the beginning of Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles in tribute to his injured teammate, DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins was supposed to be starting alongside Davis on Team LeBron but had to miss the game after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon last month.

Davis switched back to his regular No. 23 later in the All-Star Game.

Davis’ postgame quotes on wearing Cousins’ jersey:

“I just wanted to go out there and support him, I know he wanted to play so I wanted to kind of make that come true and pay my respects to him.”

Did he mention anything about seeing you do it?

“I haven’t seen him yet. He had an idea I wanted to do it but I wanted to pay my respects because I know he worked hard to be in this game especially as a starter so I wanted to make that come true.”

When did the decision to wear DeMarcus’ jersey come in, was that something you decided when he got hurt?

“It just happened this weekend, or actually today a little bit before the game.”

Was it actually his jersey?

“Yep, it was his actual jersey. It was a little big.”

It’s been a year since DeMarcus joined you guys, was this kind of a cool look-in to the year that you’ve spent together?

“No, I didn’t even think about it like that it was just to honor him because he couldn’t play in this game. That’s all it really was.”
