Anthony Davis out against Hawks with right hip contusion

ATLANTA – Just seven games into the regular season, only seven New Orleans Pelicans players had appeared in every contest, a result of injuries across much of the roster. One Pelican who enjoyed “perfect attendance” through the first two weeks of 2015-16 was Anthony Davis, but that run will end in Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. After sitting the second half Tuesday vs. Dallas, the two-time All-Star will sit tonight. His status for Friday’s game at Toronto will be evaluated over the next two days.

“He’s not going to play tonight,” Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry said of the 22-year-old. “I think it’s one of those situation where we’re going to have to evaluate each day, to see where he is. He’ll continue to get treatment on it. It could be something that’s fairly minor. Or it could be something that’s not. I don’t have any idea right now.”

Davis will remain on New Orleans’ road trip, which continues Friday against the Raptors and concludes Sunday at New York.

“We have our guys (trainers) right here with us, so the treatment will be here,” Gentry said. “We’ll see how it goes in Toronto, and in New York if we have to.”

Gentry said MRI tests Tuesday indicated a bruise.

“We’ll just have to see how it heals,” Gentry said.
