The Washington Wizards (2-0) defeated the Milwaukee Bucks (0-2) 118-113 Friday.

Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to the court after serving his one-game suspension stemming from last postseason, and did so with a vengeance. Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 27 points and came within one rebound of a double-double, tallying nine boards. The 20-year-old added three steals and a pair of assists in a performance that offered a glimpse of the vast potential that he possesses.

The Wizards were paced by a 26-point outburst from Bradley Beal, while backcourt mate John Wall chipped in with a 19-point, 10-assist double-double. While the rest of the Wizards starters struggled offensively, Ramon Sessions came off the bench to post a highly efficient 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting over just 26 minutes on the court. Veteran offseason acquisition Gary Neal poured in 13 points of his own to help supplement the efforts of his fellow trio of guards.

The Bucks also got another productive effort from new center Greg Monroe, but the prized free agent signing encountered more of a challenge on the glass against the stout defense of Marcin Gortat on Friday. Monroe matched his 22 points from the opener on excellent 72 percent shooting, but managed only five boards, a steep drop from the 14 he hauled in Wednesday. Although Milwaukee additionally saw Khris Middleton rebound from a lackluster opener with an 18-point effort, and benefited from a Michael Carter-Williams double-double, they saw the Wizards outscore them 36-21 in the final period to send them to their second defeat in as many games.

The victory keeps the Wizards perfect at 2-0 and in first place in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division. They head home for a Halloween showdown with the New York Knicks on Saturday.

The loss drops the Bucks to 0-2 and keeps them in last place in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division. They head to Toronto to face the Raptors on Sunday.
