Where He’ll Go:
Ingram is expected to be a top-2 pick.
Best Game In 2015-16
On Dec. 15, Duke won 99-65 over Georgia Southern thanks to Ingram’s game-high 26 points to go with 14 rebounds (eight offensive), two blocks, two assists and two steals. Ingram shot an efficient 9-for-13 from the field, 2-for-4 from the 3-point line and 6-for-9 from the free-throw line. It was one of eight double-doubles for Ingram on the season.
Strengths
Ingram has a great feel for the game. He moves so smooth. He’s a center trapped in a small forward body, which is a great thing. He can shoot from pretty much anywhere on the court, including the 3-point line, hitting more than 40 percent in his freshman season at Duke. He can dribble and create his own shoot.
Size-wise, he’s not a physically-imposing defender, but the dude is tough and gritty. That bodes well for his future on defense.
Weaknesses
The big knock on Ingram is that he is incredibly skinny. But he’s 19 and he’ll grow into his body. He’ll probably always be wiry. Because of his size, he’s not able to finish in traffic as much as you’d like. He probably will have a few “welcome to the NBA” moments because of his size. Some think he won’t be productive until his body develops.
He also spaces on defense sometimes, which is probably more of “he’s 19” thing than anything else.
Ratke’s Take
He’s probably not ready to contribute big time quite yet, just given his size. He probably does have a higher ceiling than a guy like Ben Simmons, but Simmons has an NBA body right now. Ingram could fill out, but he’s never going to be as solid as Simmons physically. Then again, a skinny guy named Kevin Durant came out after his freshman season and did pretty well. Ingram has a great feel for the game and is very fluid. He can score at all three levels. He’ll need to gain some weight, but the debate between him and Simmons is a very real one.
Twitter Talk
@Kyle_Ratke I’d rather have him than Simmons. At least Ingram shoots lol
I think he’ll be an all-star. Maybe a top-20 player? https://t.co/BBlgkr7Xo7
@Kyle_Ratke KD-lite
@Kyle_Ratke I like his all around game. He’ll need to adjust to the NBA 3 which could take a year or two. Can play multiple positions.
@Kyle_Ratke Why can’t I be that thin?
@Kyle_Ratke won’t be all that good until year 3
